Brussels (16 May, 2024) — Elevating artistic narratives through quality print, Sappi’s Magno paper proudly sponsors the South African Pavilion’s ‘Quiet Ground’ catalogue at the 60th International Art Exhibition, La Biennale di Venezia.
Sappi’s Magno paper is manufactured in Europe and is a leading global brand of woodfree coated paper, trusted and specified by printers for over three decades. This year, Sappi is proud to be one of the official sponsors of the catalogue ‘Quiet Ground’, capturing the spirit and essence of the South African Pavilion’s theme throughout. As part of this collaboration, Sappi ensures that the tactile experience of interacting with the exhibition’s catalogue matches the captivating visual and auditory journey of the art, emphasising it’s commitment to quality and craftsmanship.
“It’s wonderful to see South African art being shared with the world at this premier global contemporary art event. Sappi, as a South African multinational is proud to support local artists and help them amplify their important message through this medium,” commented Andre Frederich Oberholzer, Group Head Corporate Affairs.
Magno’s exceptional coated fine paper was selected specifically for the printing of this catalogue, enhancing every colour, detail, and word inside its pages. Showcasing work by talented South African artists, the catalogue serves as a comprehensive collection, providing insightful commentary, striking visuals, and contextual information about each piece. This shared vision of excellence helps bring the exhibition to life and is also an endorsement of the power of art to speak to the heart of human experience.
Quiet Ground’s delicate imagery finds its home on Magno Volume paper, crafted with care using CMYK offset printing. “Despite facing tight deadlines and intricate printing techniques, our partners at Raff & Cantz Druck GmbH in Germany delivered with precision and brought our vision to life. Each subtle image tells its own story, a testament to collaboration and craftmanship.” Says Conor Evers, Head of Marketing Sappi Europe.
Quiet Ground invites visitors to meditate on the political, social, ontological and spiritual histories of land and water. Curated by Portia Malatjie, Molemo Moiloa and Nare Mokgotho of Johannesburg-based artist collaborative MADEYOULOOK, the exhibit examines how the dispossessed reconnect with the land and investigates cycles of loss and repair during multiple iterations of displacement.
