ESG & Sustainability

To reveal a company’s overall ESG performance on key sustainability issues, we are skilled at turning this information into positive, durable storylines.

ESG COMMUNICATIONS SPECIALIST

As more and more people around the world demand corporate accountability in the areas of environmental sustainability, the protection of human rights and the integrity of corporate ownership, Bright8 help brands develop a communication strategy around these efforts. In September 2015, the UN adopted the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development with 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Businesses are called to align and recognise their role in transforming our world: through “strategies that improve health and education, reduce inequality, and spur economic growth – all while tackling climate change and working to preserve our oceans and forests.”

SUSTAINABLE ENVIRONMENTS

Now, corporations and businesses are also becoming aware of their responsibility and their part to do more and their ability to truly affect and influence change. Global leaders in industry such as Prologis lead the charge towards green energy with its solar capture work. Many now incorporate ESG at a boardroom level, basing their decision-making on their sustainability efforts. We can help you to rethink what you do to spring from your why.

SOCIAL AND CORPORATE GOVERNANCE

All companies, regardless of the industry they are in are expected to have firm commitments toward respecting and upholding environmental regulations, human rights of their employees and other stakeholders. This includes the fair treatment of employees, prevention of discrimination and harassment, and equal opportunities for all.

They are also expected to adhere to the legal corporate regulations and financial expectations of the company’s shareholders.

Sustainability & ESG

While the two terms are very similar, they are not interchangeable. It is important to understand the difference between ‘sustainability’ and ‘ESG’.

ESG refers to measurable and transparent goals of a business in its deliberate implementation of sustainable environmental, social and governance (ESG) responsibilities. Often, ESG within a business is disclosed to its stakeholders and the media in annual reports, often accompanying financial reports, where metrics support the goals. An ESG profile and report is increasingly imperative for investors, customers, suppliers and employees—and as of 2023, an essential element in securing loans and approvals from the finance industry and governmental compliance.
You operate your business on the principle that your actions affect your earth and its people. You decide that all parts of your business will implement solar panels to offset the power grid burden of your business to meet the goal of zero carbon emissions by 2040.

Sustainability, on the other hand, is a broad term referring to any practice within a business or organisation to do ‘good’ in its efforts to lower its impact on the environment—print less paper, use less water bottles. Most corporate social responsibility (CSR) efforts fall within this category.
→ You print less paper because paper is from trees, which is bad.
