The Seú Harvest Festival

Rooted in Curaçao's rich cultural heritage, the name ‘Seú’ means ‘the sky’ in Cape Verdean and Guinea-Bissau Creole. The Seú Festival originated as a harvesting ritual back in the 18th century, in which women carried the harvest in baskets on their heads, dancing to traditional ‘Seú’ music.

These days, the Seú Festival lives on as one of Curaçao's biggest celebrations, where the streets fill with music and people dance in beautiful traditional costumes. This year, you can join the festivities in Willemstad on April 6. The Seú Harvest Festival is also celebrated on April 12 in Bandabou, on the island’s west coast.
